About Wonderland

Shop Stories

Five years ago I fell down the stairs on Martha’s Vineyard in the middle of the summer season. After a med flight to Boston, emergency Surgery, many months in a wheelchair it took over two years to walk again. When my partner and I realized that I wouldn’t be able to do shows anymore he suggested we look for a store space. All of my friends came together with me to help set up the store, stock it and get it open. To me that is the perfect example of finding a new door to open when another one closes.

The Mayor of Easthampton suggested that we have a ribbon-cutting ceremony for my store. So she and my landlords, who had just bought and renovated the space, the architect and the color designer all joined me in the opening day celebration. It has been an amazing journey traveled with so many people and a huge circle of love surrounding me. I hope that my story inspires others that are disabled to find a joyful way to thrive.

Alice’s Story

2 years ago a friend of mine texted me asking if I wanted a kitten. He had been hiking in South Carolina with his puppy and they had found this kitten that had been dumped and was sick and needed a home. When he texted me the photo of her little face I couldn’t say no. That’s how Alice arrived to us. After a month of healing she turned out to be a wonderful little girl and has grown up coming back-and-forth to the store with me. Alice has her own Instagram page and a huge fan club in Eastampton Massachusetts.

People come to visit her all of the time and she is a therapy cat. Most days Alice can be found sleeping in the shop window or on the counter of Wonderland.
