Huge Old Australian Trumpet shell Syrinx aruanus, 20" long

$360.00
Huge RARE Old Australian Trumpet shell, Syrinx aruanus. Measures 20" long by 7" tall and 9" wide! This shell is very heavy so I cannot ship outside the US. Just found in an Estate in New England filled with antiques and Mid Century pieces. I am listing 4 different large specimens out of the collection. Please see all photos for full description and ask any questions.

Syrinx aruanus, common name the Australian trumpet or false trumpet, is a species of extremely large sea snail measuring up to 75 cm long and weighing up to 18 kg. It is a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Turbinellidae, and is the only species in the genus Syrinx.

This is the largest extant snail (shelled gastropod) species in the world, and arguably the largest (heaviest) gastropod in the world. Although the shell itself is quite well known to shell collectors because of its extraordinary size, little is known about the ecology and behavior of the species,[7] except for one study about its feeding habits.

I use standard industry quality descriptions for vintage and antique items but if you have questions please just ask.

Most of my items come out of estates on Martha's Vineyard and some from other places in New England. The island of Martha's Vineyard where I had lived for many years is home to many old original families of sea captains and sailors so fascinating things come up when there are estate sales. Please check my other listings. I am putting up a large collection of glassware, china, linens and postcards that I have gotten over the years out of these estates. I try to do a lot of research and give good descriptions but I am not an expert in everything so please ask questions or if you know something about a piece and are willing to add your input into my listings please contact me!

Returns are welcome only if item is not as described. Refund for item cost only and minus the original shipping cost to you, return shipping is the cost of the buyer. I take very detailed photos and give good descriptions. Ask me any questions before purchasing.
