Very RARE Antique Minton "Poonah" vase with flowers pattern 1840's footed cup and saucer set transfer ware England in good condition

$140.00
Very RARE Antique Minton "Poonah" vase with flowers pattern 1840's footed cup and saucer set transfer ware England in good condition with light wear to the red edge glaze and crazing on the saucer, no chips or cracks. The teacup has a spot where there is a defect under the glaze from the time it was made that I show in the photos. Blue maker mark with impressed Minton and date codes. I have other pieces that mix in with this pattern of various makers which I am listing as well today. Will be very well packed and insured when shipping.

Poonah painting was a style popular in the 19th century in which "thick opaque color is applied without background and with scarcely any shading, to thin paper, producing flowers, birds, etc in imitation of Oriental work" (Websters dictionary, 1913).
Minton first introduced the POONAH pattern in the mid 19th Century, it proved to be popular and was rapidly copied by other manufacturers.

Minton reissued the pattern from around 1900, extending into the 50s. Originally Poonah ware had three firings in all, with the thick, top-decorated enamels being applied by hand, just before the third and final firing.

The original Poonah design incorporates a vase containing flowers.

Other manufacturers produced patterns called POONAH which were not the same as the original but contained certain elements of the design.

I use standard industry quality descriptions for vintage and antique items but if you have questions please just ask. See all photos.

Most of my items come out of estates on Martha's Vineyard and some from other places in New England. The island of Martha's Vineyard where I have lived for the past 18 years is home to many old original families of sea captains and sailors so fascinating things come up when there are estate sales. Please check my other listings. I am putting up a large collection of glassware, china, linens and postcards that I have gotten over the years out of these estates. I try to do a lot of research and give good descriptions but I am not an expert in everything so please ask questions or if you know something about a piece and are willing to add your input into my listings please contact me!

I am happy to combine shipping on multiple items if possible. I will ship internationally but please contact me for the shipping cost before bidding. 6.25% sales tax on bidders from Massachusettes. Please check my other new listings over the next couple of days. Returns are welcome if item is not as described, refund for item cost only. I take very detailed photos and give good descriptions. Please see all pics and enlarge to see details. Ask me any questions before purchasing.
